Pretty underwhelmed with the retail covers on these, apart from the Steelbooks you guys got in the UK and France. Here's a version I much prefer, using an international poster for the front. It much better matches the style from the original LOTR trilogy. Just artwork so far, but thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

It's a nice poster you've used, but to me the rocks in front and on the sides make it look like the upper characters are giants and that the dwarf on the right (can't remember his name) is growing out of the rocks. Personally I think it would look much better with a different kind of blending/fading of the characters and without the rocks.

Update. I didn't even notice that Thorin was on there twice... Maybe I can try and do something about that. This is definitely my favorite poster art available though, it is like the LOTR but a little more colorful and playful, just like the Hobbit book! :P But I will take into consideration the suggestions and see what I can come up with.

While I think you've got the typography down, I'm not a fan of the text-over-back image though. To keep with the LOTR theme how about adding the synopsis/SFs to a piece of parchment? You can take a look at the retail Harry Potter covers (or LOTR) covers for inspiration for the text layouts.

Otherwise it's very LOTR like.
