Great review kernie :)
I pretty much agree with you on almost all things
1. I can understand that he wanted to go after uncle bens killer/lookalike killers he is hurt/sad/angry prob not thinking straight.
2. With the uncle bens famous With great power comes great responsibility i diden't mind that he never said it. I thought that he learn that through his journey in the this movie (atleast thats how i saw it)

Good review kernie,
I think you pretty much nailed it the way I saw it.
While I never liked Kirsten Dunst and hated she was in the spidey movies TBH at this stage I feel like the original MacGuire/Raimi movie did it better over all, that's just what I think.

Nice review Andrew, always cool to see how a more "die-hard" comic book fan sees these things. I agree with you on almost everything, although I do get the feeling I definitely liked it more than you :P (no mixed feeling about the movie for me).

Definitely agree with you on MJ, I've come to like her just a bit more in my lasest Raimi-trilogy revisits, but she's definitely kind of a b!tch. Emma Stone definitely pulls it off and her chemistry with Garfield is absolutely fantastic (they're actually dating in real life now, so I think that definitely helped them translate that "new teen love" on-screen).

I thought Rhys Ifans was good as Dr. Connors, but the Lizard was definitely no stand-out villain. Also, I haven't re-checked the trailers, but I read that in one of them Connors is wearing a wedding ring and apparently someone was cast as his wife, so maybe there's a deleted scene or something that didn't make the final cut. I definitely agree he kinda fell into the mad scientist cliche a bit too fast. I liked the new insight on Peter's parents which had never been touched, and I like the fact that it seems he'll learn more about them throughout this whole new trilogy...

I was expecting uncle Ben to say the "with great power" line, but I'm actually glad he didn't. I mean, to me that line already feels like too much of a tagline for the Raimi film and the new "responsibiltiy speech" on this film felt much more powerful and meaningful while still getting the same point across. Also on the matter of Peter's uncles, I felt they were much better cast this time around. On the Raimi films they felt more like his grandparents and I felt Rosemary Harris never really felt that "attached" to Peter. Here they definitely have a more parent-like connection to him. Also the fact that Peter chooses only to go after his uncle killer at first makes much more sense. After all, he's only a teenager, he's bound to make some selfish stupid choices, especially after the closest thing he had to a father gets killed. Plus the fact that he changes that attitude shows much more of a growth in character that makes him more admirable.

Finally, to me Garfield makes a better overall Spidey than Tobey. Mainly because his character was just better written and better developed, I actually cared about Peter Parker before he became Spider-Man which hadn't happened in the Raimi version. He's definitely got that sense of humor that was lacking in the previous films and also, physically I thought he was perfect for Spider-man/Peter.

Ahh well, just a couple more cents from my part :D Lets all pitch in and make a dollar!

Some news from Comic-Con on Marvel's upcoming post-Avengers movie slate, dubbed "Phase Two" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (btw, I'm not at Comic-Con, but here's what I've been reading online)...

[attachment=21750:marvel_im3.jpg]

Iron Man 3: May 3, 2013
Directed by Shane Black and featuring Ben Kingsley, now confirmed to be playing The Mandarin.

[attachment=21751:marvel_thor2.jpg]

Thor: The Dark World: November 8, 2013
Directed by Alan Taylor with rumored villains including Enchantress and Executioner. Does the new subtitle also suggest the possibility of Dark Elves?

[attachment=21752:marvel_cap2.jpg]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: April 4, 2014
Directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, who helmed some of the best episodes of NBC's Community. Little else is known, but for those who know the true identity of the Winter Soldier from reading the comics (or watching season 2 of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes), one can assume the return of a major supporting character from the first film.

Guardians of the Galaxy: August 1, 2014
Featuring cosmic characters Groot, Drax, Rocket Racoon, Gamora, and Star Lord. I think this will be Marvel's biggest gamble yet, as it involves the audience following a story that is a bit more out-there (heck, it features a talking racoon and a walking tree... but LOTR had walking trees, too). But hopefully, they will pull it off and the cosmic elements of the story will further establish the oncoming threat of Thanos in Avengers 2.

[attachment=21755:marvel_antman.jpg]

Ant-Man: TBA
Directed by Edgar Wright, with very little else known and no release date at this time. This project has been long in-development and I'm surprised it's still on the table with Wright attached. Can't say I'm particularly interested in a solo Ant-Man film, but if it involves several other Avengers characters and tie-ins, I will be more intrigued.

The Avengers 2: (2015/2016?)
Still no word on whether Joss Whedon will helm the sequel (hopefully Marvel realizes how vital his writing was to the crowd-pleasing nature of the first Avengers and signs him on soon), or when exactly the next installment will hit. Marvel's aggressive release slate with the "Phase Two" films would seem to indicate that they're aiming for a May 2015 release, as Guardians hits August 2014 and will most likely help to pave that cosmic path to a possible Thanos appearance in Avengers 2.

Despite the lack of details at the moment, the massive box office grosses have guaranteed Avengers 2 and these recent announcements finally start to reveal Marvel's plans for the next wave of films. Bottom line is that this is great news for Marvel fans, as we'll continue to see new installments in this new cinematic universe for years to come!

EDITORIAL: I also like how Marvel seems to be ditching the numbering system for its sequels (I always felt it was uninspired to just slap a "2" after the title... Iron Man 2, Spider-Man 2, Blade 2, etc... although I do see how it helps the casual movie-goer to keep track of the order in which each film takes place). The titles Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are much cooler than simply Thor 2 and Captain America 2. Too bad the Iron Man films don't follow suit, but at least it's consistent... I still hate the erratic titles of the Blade films... Blade, then the numbered Blade 2 (which could have easily been Blade: Bloodpack), then back to the number-less Blade: Trinity, even though "trinity" does mean "three". My point being is that us, the fans, are capable of remembering the sequence of the films without having to brand each film with a number. Even after all these years, I think we all know that the Batman films went in this order: Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and (ugh) Batman and Robin. I'm just glad to see Marvel getting a bit more creative with their titles, so let's hope instead of just Avengers 2, we get something like Avengers: The Infinity War!

So what do you think? Are you excited yet??? :D :D :D

In DC News...

I got my midnight screening ticket to The Dark Knight Rises for this coming Thursday night, which will reportedly feature a teaser trailer for next year's Man of Steel! Looking forward to seeing how Nolan will wrap up his trilogy! :D :D

Rocket Raccoon! The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, count me in! Agree with ditching the numbering, bet they will after Iron Man 3 as well, or rather, after Robert Downey Jr. if that ever happens.

The Dark Knight Rises, can't wait.

Very good report.
I don't follow comics and cartoons like I used to years ago, I don't know who Thanos is, or the winter soldier, but they sound cool.
Ant-Man is not much more to me than a blip on my memory radar, so I would need a huge crash course before getting excited about a movie with him. Also, no idea about Guardians of the Galaxy, guess I'll have to do some research.

I agree with the better titles rather than 2, 3 etc, I think when they did that with Star Wars it was amazing, though for me I still don't really like how Star Wars got the A New Hope subtitle chucked on after the fact, but in the scheme of things I understand it.

On another note my son and I have our GOLD CLASS :) tickets for The Dark Knight Rises this coming Saturday and let me say we are pumped for it, I'm thinking of taking my 1:6 collectors action figure of The Dark Knights Batman along for the ride.....

Nice reading Andrew :)

I meant to post something like this in the ComixNews, but never got around to it.

I should copy your post and add them... ;) :D

Didn't know about the Ant-Man, but think of the posisbility for ant-Man/Giant-Man in Avengers 2!!! Oh, the prospect of a real visual Marvel (pun intended) makes me drool! :drool:

As for Dark Elves in Thor 2.. Who knows? Wasn't the biggest fan (as you might know) of the first Thor movie, but will deffo watch the sequel anyway! - It's Comics, right? ;)

Also worth pointing out is that a lot of sites are reporting Guardians of the Galaxy could be an animated feature, so they might not be able to tie it in with their current live-action lineup which would be a shame :(

I'm definitely a fan of a subtitle rather than numbers after the title, although I've always thought having numbers for the Iron Man films made more sense (considering it's a technology-based character, and he also numbers his different suits).

I got my IMAX tickets for TDKR this Friday as soon as they were on sale! I actually also won two tickets this weekend for a critics screening on July 18 (two days before the public release), but I sold em since I already had mine and I want my first time to be in glorious IMAX :D
