Hi all, really been inspired to actually give this a go (mostly by the splendid creations I see here) so I'm intending to start with one I don't have a cover for; one I can't find a cover for
Mutiny on the Bounty (1962) and then follow that on with the '35 version.
OK now I have no skills to speak of regarding photoshop so I guess this is going to be an entirely slapdash, hatchet-esque job I'd love you guys to talk me through it give me some pointers.
Few layer effects etc and got a back panel background looking thing kind of how I was imagining it...

BTW using the WB BluRay template from here for this.

Well for first cover making the back looks pretty good to me.
Assume the synopsis will go up the top?
Maybe a stills row along the bottom area of your back image and I'd suggest lowering that image to a bit above the web addys
I like that kind of parchment effect background, think the image could use a little levels adjusting.
Are the brown smudge marks part of the image or did you put them on there?

Hi Guys,
@nikerun147 ok mate I'll give it a shot maybe when I wake up this afternoon ;-)
@Nightrider I'm not entirely sure where I was going thought maybe the synopsis over the image with stills maybe down the right, large tagline on the blank top left space or maybe title there with tagline(s) between image and web addys? The smudge is on the vintage paper texture overlaid across the whole back cover (I was looking for an aged linen/paper effect to invoke thoughts of old nautical charts etc)

I get your thoughts on the smudge, I'd think about maybe not using it on the ship image just on the parts above and below.
Also I'd suggest against putting text over the image but if you want to you could try removing the barcode and putting the synopsis coming down from there and onto the sky, but not touching the ship.
Maybe tagline between the image and the web addys and a nice bold quote up in the top area?

If you're keeping the barcode, remember to lose the stroke around it..A designer knows he has achieved perfection - not when there's nothing left to add - but when there's nothing left to take away

OK lost stroke, added rough cutout of Brando and his bit of fluff (he ended up marrying her you know). Removed main brown smudge (or did you mean completely no texture over boat pic?
I'm thinking not to have the boat on the front maybe blend boat/island/still or something - I have a decent picture of the island in question will start to add stuff to back cover and see how it turns out.
BTW sorry was using a wider-spined template than the preview pic =S

Could you please NOT edit your first previews in earlier posts? That way our members can see the development of the wip, and better help you with suggestions and so onIf you are unsure of how to post your wip threads, please take a look at a few of the other, older wips, thanks.
I like what you have so far! Keep going!Last edited by JollyRoger on Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:29 pm, edited 1 time in total.A designer knows he has achieved perfection - not when there's nothing left to add - but when there's nothing left to take away

Hope that's more in line with how this works ;-)
thanks again for comments and help (I need it)

Hey! I like that you're using an iconic image for the front cover
[attachment=21653:Untitled_1.jpg]
But your front layout isn't really coming together with the dark close-up of the ship out of no where :S
So I suggest you combine these three elements to make the front layout make sense ( I can provide the ship and beach image)
