Febuary 2012 HRC winner - Kernie82
Thanks everyone!
I had no idea that I was going up against such heavy firepower this month... wysmommy, euroboy, invisigoth, Nightrider, and MovieMonster! That's an all-star line-up right there and I'm so pleased that they all took the time to submit such amazingly awesome designs!

I fully agree... I wish I could have found some better quality images of some of the characters, but that's the downside of only being able to use what's in the resource gallery...![]()

Oh and wysmommy... do you have a tutorial (or could you briefly explain) what you did to your character art on your cover (Powers, Hurley, and Dr. Evil)? It looks absolutely beautiful, and while I can probably guess some of the techniques, I'd love to know how you did it! That is, if you don't mind sharing some of your secrets... pretty please?!![]()

I originally began cleaning up images and learning the HDR/Cinematic effect by using Lulu's image improving tutorial. It is a great tut. This one is almost identical to hers. Might even be where she got it from.
Cinematic Effect
However, venome is correct. As of recently, I go beyond that tutorial, and put a a great deal of time and effort into cleaning images. I will send you a pm, kernie.

Thanks for the link, wysmommy! Some great little tricks in that tutorial that I hadn't considered until now! I'll definitely be trying out some those techniques in the future!!
I appreciate you sharing this with me. I was very intrigued by the way the Austin Powers characters were cleaned up, and it's obvious that you spent some serious time cleaning them up manually. I knew it wasn't as simple as running a filter over it, but I wasn't exactly sure what you had done!
Excellent work!!

Firstly, a big congrats to you kernie on another outstanding cover and a great win, I think you may get a record like Jack Nicklaus in the majors, one that won't be broke![]()
And yes it had my #1 vote as well.
Secondly, wow what names there were in this comp, some of the real big guns came out to play, and what beautiful covers they created!
Thirdly, I'm humbled to be mentioned in the same sentance with the these guys and gal, that right there feels like a win!Last edited by Nightrider on Fri Mar 02, 2012 5:09 am, edited 1 time in total. It's all uphill til you get to the top
