If not for you, Matt DeV, and DarthVong, I'm not so sure I'd be in this hobby or my current career (or lack thereof). Life is strange.

It's great to read all this history.
A lot of those names there I remember hearing about back when I first started looking for custom move graphics.
I think there are about 3 or 4 I REALLY wanted to get to their work and print it but only ever managed to be able to get one or two covers from each at most.
Ahh the greats, they'll always live on.
New project for ford if he wants it...A HALL OF FAME. It's been half started here already

It's all uphill til you get to the top
Hey guys,
My turn.
My name is Marcin and I live in Poland.
So, it all started with my wife:). She began collecting dvd movies. At the beginning I did not pay attention to the appearance of the cover, but when browsing the web, I came across a forum customcovers.org no longer exist (unless such was the name of this site). When viewing the contents of the forum, I found some great covers, that somehow inspired me. I remember my first contact with the graphics was quite difficult.
I installed Photoshop, but after the first run I found that it was not for me, that too much of all the options that I will not be able to do anything in this program. Photoshop has been uninstalled from my computer.
After some time I installed Corel Paint Shop Pro, and somehow it was easier for me to learn ... to time:).
I returned back to Photoshop and I began to learn his secrets with the "Photoshop Top Secret".
After some time, along with my friend, we decided to open the forum with their own custom cover "okladkomaniacy" (only Polish custom covers). Since then somehow it spins and does not regret that I found this hobby.
Currently my wife some complain that too much time I spend on this, but then that's all her fault;), hehehhehe
All the best

Well after reading all that I feel I need to write an essay :P ..... and normally I would ..... but here is the quick version.
Back in the 1900's (I think 1997 / 1998) I got hooked on Lexx. The in-laws were on a trip to the UK so I put in an order with them for series 1 and 2 (which had just been released). I needed PAL as my TV could not handle NTSC then. When they came back with the goodies I found that my region restricted DVD player just was not going to play ball, so I did what any techy would do, I ripped them to VCD which I could watch. They of course needed covers, so with some Photoshop 4.5 experience (yes Photoshop has had versions that did not start with CS) I created my first covers. Although not understanding dpi that well I created them at 5600 dpi (the resolution of the printer) boy were they crisp !! My very first cover had floating people on disc shadows, floating heads (typically Lexx) and a fairly solid background. The Logos and text were not too bad considering.
Years went by and then DVD Plaza started up (RIP: closed Jan 2012) and with the number of DVD's I had one set gave me grief. Star Trek movies had one cover design for the first movie (which had been out a while) and a totally different design for the others. Through DVD Plaza I found DVD Cover Art at a time when they had a 10 credits free to join.
The rest is history.
When work got in the way I had a number of covers WIP. They are still there about to be dug out.
My covers I am proud of (for different reasons) are
Futurama
MASH
Comic Book Collection design
The Craft (thanks to a competition from Witchy)
South Park (double episode 6 pack space savers)
But these were ordinary in the shadow of greats such as Dagon, iCoty, Jupiter, Bunny, and so many others I simply cannot remember (without trolling the forums for a while
)
...just as well this is the quick version
