I like the new additions Tim, but I feel Kim Basinger would look better inside the frame, rather than outside. The TT looks better now too :)

Yup - I'm not sure your montage works tbh Tim.While I really like the colours/hues the scene itself seems... off somehow. I wish I could be more clear. Anyways, perhaps consider building a new montage from the scratch?

Tim ... i like the colours, lights, neons, the "new" TT and the overall look, but to be honest, i should say that somehow Kim should be inside the frame ( i agree with Filipe-11) if possible on the right side.
A little too dark perhaps, sorry but this is my simple oppinion.
Don't quit, because thought work is only for the thoughters. :D

She doesn't need to be inside as such, i'd try just shifting her over so she's more included and adding that other arm :P It will make the front far less abrupt on that side and may even things out a tad? Do you intend on adding more to the "montage" Tim?

My original idea was to add a bit more, with De Vito in a bubble on the top right, more newspaper headlines, and a few images blended in red into the background. It's not exactly shaping up like I'd hoped, though. :)

Then again, my last few covers have been marked by hours of not liking a design but continuing to work on it until things suddenly shift and I find something I love, so hopefully that will eventually be the case here. It's worth at least a little more trying, I figure. :)

I think it's a great start, but I think one of the issues I'm seeing with your montage is that there isn't enough variation of scale in the "floating heads."

If you google some of Drew Struzan's iconic posters, you'll see a large variation in the size of one character's head and another... for instance...

[attachment=17092:indy.jpg] [attachment=17091:hook.jpg]

In my opinion, Pearce and Crowe's heads are too similar in size, and Spacey could be drastically shrunk or drastically enlarged. I've never seen the film, so I don't know which characters are more important than others, but I would scale them according to their importance to the overall film.

I LOVE the work you did on Basinger... absolutely flawless blend with Hurley's body. The text above the montage is also great, really like the font choices and styling on the TT. I dig the police silhouettes, but will wait to see how they work when the floating heads get further resolved. Can't say that I'm liking the random lines of text in the montage, they don't read as "newspaper headlines" to me. I would save the text until you get the overall layout working.

I think another issue is that my eye doesn't "flow" around the montage. It follows a straight line from Basinger right across to Pearce, but nothing pulls it down to the silhouettes or up towards the deco light-rays thing above. Again, refer to Struzan's posters above and notice how your eye moves in a circular pattern around the design. Start with a focal point (in my opinion, this would be Basinger), and create a layout that allows your eye to start on her and flow around the design until it comes right back to her.

Just my 6 cents... I hope it's helpful. :D :D :D

Fair points, Kernie. I'm realizing that the idea behind the style points in one direction while the design rules I've been setting for myself point in another. I suppose the result is this thing basically splitting down the middle and everything spilling out on the canvas. :)

Falling so as to learn how to pick myself up, and such. :)

Very interesting comments from kernie about the floating heads etc, when you read them they make a lot of sense (note to self to remember them)

That is amazing what you did with Kim,s head and Liz's body.

I think the bottom half is stunning with the police, and only my 2cents but I really like those lines of text, they give it a great feel to me :)

Cheers

So, I ended up changing direction and heading toward more of an homage of '40s-'50s styling.
Does it work? Probably not. :lol2: It sure has taken long, though. That counts for something, right? :D

I definitely plan on trying more options for the car image, but, overall, I'm pretty interested in continuing down this path.

The texture, in case it's tough to decipher in the small preview:
