The Comic Book Collection by Kernie
The first film had a few Visual FX shots that we neat, but the overall story and misinterpretation of the Johnny Blaze character was truly insulting. I was never a huge fan of the comic character, other than his basic background, but MSJ and Nic Cage's approach to Blaze (eating jelly beans, watching youtube, and listening to the Carpenters) was completely off the mark. A daredevil stunt driver who sold his soul to the devil (which subsequently caused the death of his father), would not behave this way. I don't totally see the appeal of Eva Mendes either, but her wardrobe in this movie did her no favors...
Listen to the commentary on the DVD/Blu-ray and wait for the part where the director (Mark Steven Johnson) basically has a little hissy-fit about all the critics who bashed the film, saying, "It's not Lawrence of Arabia. It's a flick about a guy whose head goes on fire." True, but it doesn't need to be embarrassingly bad, either. Nolan could have approached Batman as, "It's not Gone With the Wind, it's a guy who puts on a bat costume and jumps around the city," but he didn't and I think that worked out pretty well...
Anyway, the sequel looks BETTER, but that doesn't mean it looks good. The Crank guys seem like the right choice for directors. At least they have some experience with action films, whereas Johnson made Simon Birch and When in Rome. However, a February release, the return of Nic Cage (who can't play a straight man, he's only good in quirkier roles), and the bad taste from the first film leave me very skeptical that this will be a vast improvement.

The sequel is apparently about a guy whose head goes on fire AND pees like a flame-thrower.

Yeah... that bit is ridiculously stupid and hopefully won't make it into the final cut.
Why don't people realize that, even though the concept of a flaming-skulled, bounty-hunter-for-the-devil on a motorcycle is strange, that's what makes it kind of cool (especially if not played for how ludicrous it is). Imagine if Donner never took Superman seriously and played it for laughs, or Burton and Nolan on Batman, or Raimi with Spider-Man. Each one is quite open to juvenile gags and jokes, but because those directors respected the source material, they became strong and lasting franchises.
Ghost Rider p155ing fire is from the same well as bat-nipples, emo-disco-Spidey, and bird-poop-Thing in FF. It makes a joke out of the character and insults the fan base. Save those stupid and obvious gags for those terrible Meet the Spartans spoofs.
FYI... just updated the Green Lantern DVD and Blu-ray covers to include proper R1 retail Special Features and specs.
Sorry I haven't really added much to this collection in a while, but to be honest, I'm a little burnt out from it after that last massive upload, and there really aren't that many comic book-to-film/TV properties left to cover. I do plan to do a cover for the 2011 pilot of Wonder Woman (which popped up online not too long ago). And there's a few other things that need covers (Cowboys & Aliens, Dylan Dog), but I'll get to them when my ambition returns (which will probably happen in the late fall/early winter). And, of course, there's next summer's slate of films (Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider-Man, etc.) to add!

Nope... no luck yet. Just the low-res crappy stuff that comes up on every google search.
I guess I should probably stop performing miracles, it's clearly given folks the notion that I can make a cover for even the most obscure, short-lived things ever broadcast on television (cough*powerpack*cough).![]()

I'll keep my eyes open (and maybe you could too?) for any Swamp Thing animated stuff. If something pops up, I'll absolutely make a cover for it, but don't hold your breath... the show is 20 years old, if good artwork was out there, it probably would have surfaced already.
I'm honestly starting to think that the days of adding old titles to this collection are coming to an end. I've scoured the internet for much longer than most humans probably should trying to find images for old stuff. I've been extremely lucky to have found as much as I have, but it's getting harder and there will come a point when I have to regrettably give up and concentrate on only adding covers for current movies and shows. Many members (including you, RRJR) have been awesome in helping me track down decent imagery for these older shows, but unfortunately, I think we're all finding it increasingly difficult to dig up imagery for these old shows. What's even more unfortunate, however, is when someone fails to understand how difficult a process this can be (again... cough*powerpack*cough), and seems to completely ignore all that I have previously done to complain about a few random titles that I failed to include in the collection. That's when I get a little annoyed (although to be clear, I'm not annoyed at you, RRJR, I know you're just kindly inquiring about Swamp Thing). Trust me, if there was some magical website that had gorgeous, high-resolution, 8 megapixel or higher imagery available for all of those older, obscure titles that I have yet to add to the collection, I would be there downloading everything in a heartbeat...![]()
