I don't think you really need to include joyce but how about wesley, by the way i like your plan is sounds perfect. if i can think of any other characters i pitch them in.

The problem is that S1 doesn't have a lot of characters to include, so it'll be pretty bare compared to later seasons. Wesley would be great, but he's only in S3, and I'm not sure who to switch him out with. The Joyce/Dawn switch works well because Joyce dies in the same season that Dawn first appears (plus, I like the idea of switching out Mother/Daughter). I'm trying to keep most of the switches thematic like that (Angel/Spike, Master/Other Big Bads).

Small update... added an iron cemetery gate behind Angel and put some gothic-ish candelabras in the foreground.

Thoughts?

Your plan sounds solid and seem to me will work quite well.

I look forward to the journey of this set.

Imo i don't think the little things items added really work, The candles don't hold much significance to the show and the gate looks odd to me. But that's just me either way keep it going I'm already drooling for theses covers.

Could always try crosses instead of candles just a thought.

I personally like the new items, tough guy!! :D :D :D

I was taught that if a designer can validate his decisions with an explanation, then it's a good enough reason, so here goes...

1) The candles are reminiscent of the buttload of candles in the Master's underground church lair. And to justify their presence on the covers for S2-7, candles are often used in magic spells and rituals. Just because candles aren't a major presence on the show doesn't mean that they don't have a symbolic significance to magic, mysticism, and witchcraft.

2) The gate is obviously intended to evoke the cemetery that Buffy routinely patrols. Therefore... significant.

3) I needed to put something else in there besides people, it was too many characters and not enough other "stuff." These items help to "mix things up" a little bit.

4) Look at some of Drew Struzan's posters which I'm trying to emulate, particularly Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Hook, and Indiana Jones. He uses a great mix of characters and other items at varying scales to create an awesome collage.

5) I'm not seeing how crosses would work in that area. Crosses have a religious context that might be misinterpreted, candles are a bit more secular (and the little flames add a touch of orange/yellow into an area that needed some other colors). The candles also form a nice bottom border to the character area.

Sorry if this seems overly defensive, but I really like the new elements and felt I should explain their inclusion. Hope you still will like the covers if those items stay... :D

EDIT: Not that I plan to change it, but does Angel look a bit like that Edward girl from Twilight? :D

Here's an update...

[attachment=16801:buffy_preview_006.jpg]

Added Darla, Snyder, and Joyce. Added brass book corners to the border, changed the top text to a tagline, and added the season text below the TT.

Darla will be replaced by Drusilla (S2), Faith (S3-S4, S7), and Tara (S5-S6).
Snyder replaced by Oz (S2-S3), Riley (S4-S5), and Andrew (S6-S7).
Joyce replaced by Dawn starting with S5.

I need some suggestions for the right side of the keyart, I'd want this area to include more characters in later seasons, but S1 is kind of light on recurring characters (maybe Ms. Calendar and the Anointed One).

I might also include a demon from each season on the right side... robot Moloch (S1), the Judge or Acathla (S2), Mr. Trick (S3), D'Hoffryn (S4), Dracula (S5), Sweet (S6), and a Bringer or Turok Han (S7). Just not sure if I can find pics for each one...

Any thoughts? Please? :D :D :D

The montage is really coming together, I'm not sure about the vampire in the top left corner, how would the keyart look without it?
