First Paranormal Activity was lame, too. But not as bad. Underwhelming and at times stupid, but much better than the second.

I have a friend like you. He loves everything he sees, he has no discriminating taste. He's automatically gives a film a 9/10 because the theater got the image so big onto the white screen or when the video/audio are in sync. :D :D :D

There's a lot of crap that I've watched, but was "entertained" by it. To me, "entertainment" value doesn't always equal quality. I'm entertained by the sheer stupidity of films like "Mac and Me" and "The Room," but neither of which will ever be described as good. I'm really not an elitist, I hate most of the Oscar contenders each year and find them incredibly stuffy and boring. A good film is both intelligently produced and constructed as well as being on some level entertaining.

Favorite movie of all time? Clue: The Movie. Vastly underrated and under-seen by the general public, but it has a stellar cast, clever dialogue, and an intriguing murder mystery.

As for a top 5, I don't usually limit myself to such a list. But I'd have to say that Clue, Zodiac, and the Back to the Future trilogy as a whole are among them. I usually go by movies that I can watch over and over again, always find something new, and always be entertained on each viewing. And I believe all three are smarter than the average film, there are multiple levels and layers to them. A lot of films lack that aspect nowadays.

Your top five?

I kinda see this as an "ongoing" thread. See a movie, make a post. Sound good?

Conviction (2010) - 8/10 Watched this two nights ago. I really like "based on a true story" movies, and love it when they show you photos of the actual people at the end. If the movie suffers in anyway, it might be "overacting" by Hilary Swank, but honestly, I didn't think that during the movie, only after.

RRJR... Monster Squad is certainly awesome (although a bit cheesy)!! But I think Fred Dekker's other film, Night of the Creeps, is slightly better... Tom Atkins rocked that show ("THRILL ME!!!")!

I wish I could get "Bad Moon" from Netflix, but apparently they don't have it (the ONE movie they don't seem to have!!). Would love to check it out.

Lol, that's funny... I am close but not that open to everything!

My top 5 of all time:

Sunshine - An absolute masterpiece by Danny Boyle!
Apollo 13 - An amazing movie that got robbed of a sure Oscar by Braveheart!
The Mist - Behind it's low budget CG, is a movie that touches on so many human issues it can't be ignored... and the ending, oh my!
The Breakfast Club - John Hughes was the master of 80s films, and this group of misfits were captivating on the screen!
Office Space - A comedy that relates to just about every job in the world in some way, I still laugh every time like it's the first!

Others that come in not far behind:

The Great Escape
Toy Story Series
The Lion King
Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Last 3 movies were:

Megamind: 9/10 Loved the movie, so funny, and wil ferrels best
32 Mins of Hereafter: 3/10 it gets 1 point for every 10 mins i watched... What a bad movie
All-Star Superman: 9/10 Fantastic, a little disappointed b/c they probably cut out half the stories b/c of time, but it didn't take way from the movie itself. If I never read the 12 issues I wouldn't have known

I saw Due Date when it came out, it certainly wasn't as good as The Hangover (which is now my all-time favorite comedy movie, 10/10), but I still laughed a lot, I'd give it a 8.5/10.

Jennifer's Body... as Bazzah said, could have been better, but still entertaining... but [SPOILER ALERT] Megan Fox making out with Amanda Seyfried? Amazing. I'll give it a 8/10 just for that.

Recently watched?

I'm Still Here, starring Joaquin Phoenix, directed by Casey Affleck. The movie itself isn't great, though it does have very funny moments, and Phoenix's acting is simply amazing. Not only that but the whole hoax he pulled off was incredible too. Certainly made it worth watching. 8/10

Takers was a pretty entertaining action flick, could've been a bit better though. Terrible acting by "T.I." 7.5/10.

The Social Network, watched for some inspiration for the competition, it's a good movie but extremely overhyped. Very solid acting from everyone though. 8.5/10

Twelve, directed by our favorite Batman director Joel Schumacher :P It had potential but it falls short for what it tries to be. Also very excesive voice overs from Keither Sutherland make it a bit annoying... good acting though. 6.5/10

Also, my ratings really depend on the kind of movie. As Roger Ebert says, "When you ask a friend if Hellboy is any good, you're not asking if it's any good compared to Mystic River, you're asking if it's any good compared to The Punisher. And my answer would be, on a scale of one to four, if Superman is four, then Hellboy is three and The Punisher is two. In the same way, if American Beauty gets four stars, then The United States of Leland clocks in at about two."

I'll post my all-time favs in a while :D

I HATE when hype ruins a movie for me, or when my love for a movie precedes the hype.

I saw Social Network the weekend of its release, not expecting much, and loved it. The fact that my expectations were exceeded was because the hype machine hadn't kicked in yet.

Same thing for Napoleon Dynamite, saw it before the hype got big, and loved it. Now I only mildly like it, because everyone kept quoting it and talking about it.

There have been movies that I might have liked, but were ruined by how big the hype was. I didn't see Avatar until blu-ray and couldn't understand what the big deal was. Predictable, boring, and a bit preachy. I can't even remember if I finished it or fell asleep. Maybe it was the theatrical 3D experience that was so great...?

Anyway... I'm quite enjoying this thread!!! :D :D :D
