I loved this movie. Not for the acting, not for the scenery, not for the soundtrack - just for the story line. At first, I was prepared to say that Ben Affleck really surprised me with this screenplay, however, he and Matt Damon teamed up for Good Will Hunting. Makes me wonder why he waited 10 years before giving us another writing effort. I hope we don't have to wait another 10!
As for the acting - it was not bad, they did not get in the way of the story, and maybe that was enough. I still think the Casey Affleck has a ways to go before he will impress me. The scenes he had with other actors were completely dominated by those other actors: Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, heck, even the bar scene with Titus Welliver (yea, look up his name on IMDB - the only pic available is from this movie)!
Since the story revolves around a missing child, I think this movie has a special resonance for parents. It is more mystery than thriller, but it is one heck of a good mystery ride!
Now - if you have seen this movie - check out this spoiler comment:
Did you notice at the end of the movie, when Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck) was on the couch with Amanda. He saw her holding the doll, and said "Is that Mirabelle?". She corrected him: "Annabelle". The doll had been refered to by the name of Mirabelle throughout the entire movie. This means that the mother was so clueless about her daughter and her life that she didn't even know the name of her favorite doll! I pointed this out to serveral other people after seeing the movie, and none of them caught the significance.
