I cannot honestly understand why anyone would go HD, rob and me were telling everyone in the world to back Blu-Ray..............It was simply a case of watching what the big giant was doing then placing your bets.......Apart, from that do any of you guys remember what I told you about Amaray BD case production....................happily they are always on the end of my telephone........hehehehehe ;)

I have both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. I bought a Toshiba HD-DVD player first and found out since it's an entry level machine it can only display 1080i. I want to get the Toshiba HD-A35 as I read they have come down to MSR of $299.

A few months after I bought the HD-DVD, I invested in a Sony Blu-Ray player (also entry level) at just over $500.00.

Both machines are great and play their formats perfectly and both have up-conversion for standard DVDs.

I have no preference for one or the other and since my AV receiver has 4 HDMI inputs I go through that instead of going directly to my display monitor.

Warner are stopping production of HD, and the other studios are likely to follow
Paramount is HD-DVD, but The thing to know is, they were paid a lot of money by Toshiba and Microsoft to go HD-DVD and they only signed a 18 month exclusive contract. That contract ends at the end of this year…which means they’ll be back on the Blu-Ray bandwagon if the other studios are producing blu-ray only

heres Warners press release:
WARNER BROS. ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE ITS HIGH-DEFINITION DVD TITLES EXCLUSIVELY IN THE BLU-RAY DISC FORMAT BEGINNING LATER THIS YEAR

Decision Made in Response to Strong Consumer Preference for Format

In response to consumer demand, Warner Bros. Entertainment will release its high-definition DVD titles exclusively in the Blu-ray disc format beginning later this year, it was announced today by Barry Meyer, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. and Kevin Tsujihara, President, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group.

"Warner Bros.' move to exclusively release in the Blu-ray disc format is a strategic decision focused on the long term and the most direct way to give consumers what they want," said Meyer. "The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers."

Warner Home Video will continue to release its titles in standard DVD format and Blu-ray. After a short window following their standard DVD and Blu-ray releases, all new titles will continue to be released in HD DVD until the end of May 2008.

"Warner Bros. has produced in both high-definition formats in an effort to provide consumer choice, foster mainstream adoption and drive down hardware prices," said Jeff Bewkes, President and Chief Executive Officer, Time Warner Inc., the parent company of Warner Bros. Entertainment. "Today's decision by Warner Bros. to distribute in a single format comes at the right time and is the best decision both for consumers and Time Warner."

"A two-format landscape has led to consumer confusion and indifference toward high definition, which has kept the technology from reaching mass adoption and becoming the important revenue stream that it can be for the industry," said Tsujihara. "Consumers have clearly chosen Blu-ray, and we believe that recognizing this preference is the right step in making this great home entertainment experience accessible to the widest possible audience. Warner Bros. has worked very closely with the Toshiba Corporation in promoting high definition media and we have enormous respect for their efforts. We look forward to working with them on other projects in the future."

what warner are effectivley saying is they aren't making money from the HD format, thats why the are only going to produce blu-ray

as for me im a playstaion fan, but thats neither here or there i think the big Killer for the HD was loading times.
i have heard countless stories about how long it takes a HD disc to load and then to eject when you have finished with it.If your impatient and press a number of buttons then it performs all the tasks, much like a PC when you ask it to do too much then sit there waiting and waiting.
In todays age people want Instant everything, fast internet ect.. everything at a click of a button, and when word got round about the slow response time of HD players i think it put many people off

I just sent my HD DVD player back... It had too many glitches and problems. I will be buying a PS3 and Blu-Ray discs from now on. It looks like the better (and longer lasting) product. Paramount is rumored to be leaving the HD DVD camp, leaving Universal its only supporter.
