Well, I bought a small stack of white printable CDs today. I wanted to play some, and my utter lack of patience got the best of me. Besides, my son is a Cub Scout and we just had a camping trip. I took a ton of pictures of the awards ceremony, the kids doing the "Raingutter Rigata", the activities, etc. I swear, noone but myself and 1 other parent had a camera, and I wanted to get a collection of the pics and give a disc to each child's parents in our den (7 kids) and one for the Scout Master to share with all the kids in the pack (over 100 kids!!!), and I wanted them to look nice.

All I got to say is, "DAYUM!!! These are super sweet!!!"

I did simple label with the bear emblem (my youngest is a bear scout) for our den, and one with the tigercub, bobcat, wolf, bear, and weeblo for the pack. They turned out super nice.

Now I am disappointed I waited so long to buy a CD/DVD capable printer. I am totally pleased with the white faces and the printer quality. Admittedly, I will need to try some more complex labels, but for now I am stoked. Now I have to wait on the silvers, and see whether or not they recieve my stamp of approval as well /whistle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whistle:" border="0" alt="whistle.gif" /> .

That's what I am betting on too. B&W images and text [i]should[/i] look better on the silver (rather then the expansive white background), and it will be less apt to get as dirty as a dead white background when the grimy mitts of my kids get all over them /unsure1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":S" border="0" alt="unsure1.gif" /> .

Tracking confirms delivery due on Thursday, in transit and on time, so I'll be glad to fill you guys (and gals) in next weekend how I feel they compare side by side. I'll do text, B&W, and a couple color samples head to head. If anyone has a specific request of label art, I'll try it, provided I own the movie. It doesn't hurt to have a backup, and I have about 75 dual disc covers that don't seem to get used enough /chin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":chin:" border="0" alt="chin.gif" />

On a side note, here are some mains I built for my room, using tiger mahogany, black walnut edge inserts (rounded to eliminate excessive high frequency reinforcement) and 16 layers of brushing lacquer. Frequency responce is flat (+/- 3 dB) in room from 22Hz to 24.5kHz, nominal phase shifts, and near flat dynamic impedance.

A 100 inch display costs alot less then you might think. Particularly when you build the screen by yourself /winking.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="winking.gif" />. It cost less then my 53 inch television, as a matter of fact. The room was already prepped for viewing anyways (including surround), so it was a simple matter of screen construction, and a hush box. The long cables cost me more than I would have liked though :(.

Home Theater is a hobby of mine, as well as a side job. I also custom design and build high end, exotic hardwood speakers as well. So my theater must be pleasing, and my film repertoire must cover my customers' interests.

I just ordered a spindle of TY white, and a spindle of TY silver printables. I will be glad to offer up my opinions of each when I have done some work with them. For those of you terribly interested, I might be willing to send some off of either for you to try.

This may be a stupid question, but if you can afford a 100 inch display why do you even copy discs? Assuming you aren't just backing up stuff you own i mean.

Cool. I hear ya with the scan. I always assume the scan is as clean as the drive as well and do give credit where it is due. There will always be variations, and with the drive MFG listed we can make our own observations based on the drive unit, and our experiences with them. Just an FYI, EAC (exact audio copy) will determine the best drive in your system which helps with verifications as well.

I have tried some quick encoders with marginal success. I am pretty anal about my recordings, and the artifacts in even modest compression burns drives me crazy. I use a 100 inch wide screen that folds into my ceiling for intensive film viewing, and frequently the things that don't show up on my Elite 53 incher rear their heads on the big screen. A buddy of mine and I split the cost of the CCE-SP, so it was less of a hit and well worth my time and money.

Do the Verbs you use code out as MCC003? These are the 8X DVD R+ white inkjet Verbs I found at Supermediastore. I have been using them for quite a while with great results... they could ship quicker, but I get my products within a week, so no real sweat. I usually order when I get down to 25 discs, which gives me a couple weeks leeway at least. I buy all my media and covers from them.

I do use the Verbs, I don't scan as I feel that is totally overrated and it also depends on the drive you are scanning with and there are way to many factors for those scans to be accurate. What I can tell you is I Just watched a move that was burned to a Verb White Hub Printable dvd+r a little over 4 years ago, and it still plays flawlessly. I just ran a quick CRC read error test with dvdinfopro to see if any part of the disc as "eroded" and it all came up 100% ok. That's all the info I need.

I have a 52" Mitsubishi 1080P DLP and even heavily compressed movies look good (using an older dvd player). I have also tried that same heavily compressed dvd in a friends upconverting (1080P) dvd player it is looks even better, than on mine.
