Agreed. I'd recommend 1 layer for your wall with the texture, and then 1 layer for the flying pieces using a matching stone texture without the seams.
(Or, you can use the same texture with the seams, but you would have to move/rotate it for each individual flying piece.)

Maybe play a bit more with with shadows or add highlights around the flying pieces, so they don't blend in as much. Finish with some extra dust flying, etc. and you should have a nice result.
