This is a quick and easy way of adding stars to a night or space scene.

[attachment=45407:stars.gif]

1. Create a new layer (SHIFT CTRL/CMD N), name it Stars, set Mode to Screen and select Fill with Screen-neutral color (Black). Right click on the layer and select 'Convert To Smart Object'

[attachment=45414:newlayer.jpg] [attachment=45410:layers.jpg]

2. Select Add Noise from the filter menu, and set it to around 38%, Gaussian and Monochromatic.

3. Select Gaussian Blur from the filter menu, and set it to about 1.5.

4. Press CTRL/CMD + L to add a levels layer. You can now adjust the sliders to customise how you want your stars to look. In this example I set them to 71/5/77.

5. Add a mask to your stars layer to fade them into your skyline.

And that's it! Have a play with all the adjustments (double click on the filters in your layers window) to change how bright, or how many stars there are. And if they are too sharp, just add another Gaussian Blur filter to them.
