Just a quick add on, I use compatible ink cartridges in my Canons and the printers last a good few years, but when we got the Epson Artisan 725 the guys in the computer shop I use, and have for many many years, and also they are the local repairer for Epson here ,told me not to ever use compatible cartridges in the Epsons, they said it's not worth it in the long run with them, so we have always stuck with original inks for it, had it about 18 months to 2 years now I think and it's still like new.

after 9yrs ive still got my r300 and its still as fresh as it was the day i bought it, have used continuous ink supplys and also compatible inks and tbh its still going strong and still get the quality idid on the first day :)

A continuous ink system sounds like it would be OK. I killed my R200 by using compatible inks in cartridges. I found that the cartridges didn't have as much ink in them as epson originals so I'd run out of ink before the printer even calculated it was running low. The end result was a dried out print head long before the printer warning came up. I was able to revive the thing usually by using windex and alcohol and other stuff but eventually the dried clogs became un-repairable. I don't use compatible inks any more. Besides, the colours were off and the compatible inks are absolutely no good for quality photos.

I used to use an Epson R300 until it eventually died, great print quality - I'm not too sure what the newer Epson models are like, I would have thought they would have improved since the R300 was released.

I just got an Epson XP 810, great printer, allows for "on disc" printing as well, beautiful vibrant colors, Continuous ink system can be purchased for this as well, so far I love it.

i still use my trusty r300 just for discs, but I got a Epson p50 an upgraded r285 really, use a waste ink tank on it since I bought it reset it about every 4-5 months, it was cheap when I first bought one £70 now they are anything upto £150 as they are very good printers for discs and photos

My R200 is also about to kick it....I picked up an Artisan 730 about a year ago...prints great and also does discs...
A little pricey now though, but works great with a CIS system.

Canon's are my second choice....but look up the generic ink cartridge price before you choose a model.

My R200 died a couple of years ago after a lengthy service life. I bought an Epson R1900 wide format printer for my photographs. It does a great job on the right photo paper but I was disappointed with the appearance of labels. I use glossy discs but the blacks just didn't come out right on discs. I then bought an Epson Artisan 837 just for discs and every day printing. (The R1900 has 8 cartridges so I didn't want to use it for every day printing.) I picked the 837 because it was of the very few printers available that did discs and because it was on sale for something like $80. It is great for discs and I'm extremely happy with it. The 837 is also a scanner and it does a great good job on documents but I have a higher end scanner that I use more often for photos and covers.

I'm using a Canon ip4950, very good print on both paper and discs, I keep buying Canon as each one dies (they last a few years tho :) ).

Also have an Epson Artisan 725 which my wife uses, I haven't done discs on it but it's print quality on paper is great, however when one ink tank is to low it won't print at all until the tank is replaced, where as with the Canon it'll still print if you tell it to but it still recommends replacing the tank ASAP or damage could occur.

i'm using an epson 4600 ive been able to keep bringing it back to life for yrs by resetting it.
