I hope you have not been discouraged by all this. You do have some fair points, and what you do privately, is of course up to you - as long as you don't upload the results to any site. Personally I'd like to see what it is you did with my (very old) Usual Suspects DVD cover, but I wouldn't want to find the result online. ;)

I think it's time we all took a step back, and try to find a middle ground.

To our site designers, please give ichy another chance. He may be long-winded :Tumbleweed: , but he's new to this site and 'our culture'. I say we try and show it in the best possible light. If you feel someone is not listening to pointers, ideas or other help, then feel free to ignore the posts, and move on to another topic. ;)

To Ichy - In Denmark we have a saying, when coming to a new place; with 'foreign' culture/rules and so on: Stick your finger in the ground! - which means - take the time to try and understand how things work before jumping right in.

And lastly Ichy - Please shorten your goddamn posts! :cussing: :giggle: You're elaborate, but as you can see from Sauron's comment - you simply lose ppl halfway, and consequently fail to get your point(s) across. I managed to read all of your pm, and to be fair, and as I mentioned above, You do have some good points. Try not to obscure them in too longwinded posts. :cheers:

Actually I have not changed that rule at all. That rule has been there for several years. The rule I edited was number 6

6. If you are uploading somebody else's work, DO NOT take credit for it. If the author is unknown, then please state that. If it is a Scan, SAY SO! If you do know the original author, please put their name as the creator. If the original author sees his/her work displayed here that has been uploaded by another member, and requests it to be removed, it will be immediately. Uploads of other peoples work, without appropriate credit given (i.e unknown or the creators name) will not be allowed. It is at our discretion whether we allow work to be uploaded that you have not created. The only time it is generally acceptable is if you are uploading a title that is not already in the gallery, for reasons such as filling requests.

You didn't just get "none of it" - if you look in any of your W.I.P you will see some people, including myself offering advice but you have obviously just disregarded our help to carry on trying to put your point across about using other peoples work to put UK bits on.

So them & us? This is a cover replacement site remember. Subscription is where the income comes from to run it all. People like me come here to download great covers and use them in their own collections. Before I came here I had difficulty finding good covers so made some myself. I don't really want to do that if I can help it. Does that make sense? But I only want UK covers so I tinker with them. Is that OK? I found this site and joined so I could design less, not more; to save me having to design stuff myself. I have the odd good idea and like things a particular way but I'm not particularly advanced and have no particular desire to be.

Don't think I don't listen and take in your comments. I'd like your advice and help with my questions. I think my query was either not read or not understood, but I don't think all this hostility is appropriate. If I do the wrong thing, can you show me without beating me? And I don't mean be gentle (be as brutal as you like) I mean be constructive and help me ask the right questions.

I agree completely with Bunny, although it seems like you're passionate about getting your point across, I did eventually lose interest in what you were saying.

Try not to take any criticism so badly, you said in your PM that you have "thick skin" - it doesn't look that way to me, as a designer you have to learn to take any form of criticism constructively, everyone who comments in the W.I.P. is here to help out others when they hit a block, so appreciate that others are taking their time to help you become a better designer/cover maker.

What a waste of time! What is it that you want? A place to upload? Go elsewhere imo, want help to develop as a designer? Fine but make your mind up and stick by the rules, we all abide by them so choose if you want to be here or not! We are a community, we are a family, we work together, do you want to be part of our team? That 'team' and 'family' i mention isn't just limited to this site, we are a group of friends that wish to share and grow as designers not just show off and cause problems. It doesn't seem you wish to be a part of this rich and rewarding community at the moment so make your mind up time kiddo! I gotta add by looking at your covers and also being in the U.K. i would not like to see your movie collection lol :P

Think Ark makes the key point here, I for one would like a simple answer to that first question as that will make deciding on whether offering up suggestions in your WIP's is even the best thing to do.

The recurring theme in most of your posts is and correct me if I'm wrong but it keeps coming back to "your just trying to suit you" is that pretty much it?

If so sadly we can't help you in that area as only you know what that is, an for us to try and guess that would be a fools errand, sorry if that sounds harsh but I'm clueless how else to say it.

I can tell you that all the top designers here all have unique styles but that does not stop them from offering valid design suggestions for styles
outside their preferred area. Some design principles are universal whether you're making a full on total custom, a high quality retail looking replacement or a minimalistic cover.

The problem is no one can help you as they don't really know what your trying to do, it's up to you to make that part very clear, so everyone can help guide you in the proper direction and you in my opinion have failed at doing that so far.

If your happy with how your covers are now and don't really want to change anything then we are back to the original question or more simply what do you want?

Regarding the very long PM you just sent several of us...

"W.I.P." stands for "Work In Progress." If your cover is done, and you explicitly have zero interest in making changes to it, this is not the ideal section for you. If you want input on a design, you would ask for it while the design is In Progress. You would then consider the input and proceed accordingly. This way, instead of feeling like you're working against everyone, having to defend your cover, you can feel like everyone is working with you.

Designers are encouraged to have only one WIP thread open at a time. That is likely why someone closed one or more of your other WIP threads.

Lastly, taking the time to write 1900+ words across some-26 paragraphs for a Private Message, while being boastfully unwilling to spend more than a few minutes making a cover, seems like a mis-allocation of resources. It's worth considering putting that energy into your designs or splitting your time and trying your hand at a little creative writing as a hobby, separately.
