Thanks to everyone who showed help and support as I struggled with motivation on this cover. I have uploaded a Blu-ray and DVD version to the gallery (plus labels) and have started a Showcase thread [[url=http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17452]here[/url]] for the finished product.

I'll try to find a compromise between my most recent version and BD's heavily-saturated version. Nolan's films are not bright, oversaturated, and colorful; so it's odd to have a vibrant color scheme that doesn't match the tone of these films.

As for the white text, I'm afraid I'll have to compromise again. Pure white is just too bright and contrasty (is that a word?) for my taste on this cover. I've gone with a 70% gray with a tiny bit of blue thrown in on the TT, headlines, etc. I miss the blue on the back, but it wasn't working on the front or spine.

As for sauron's suggestion of more hair... sorry, but I'm not in the mood to keep painting hairs tonight. The preview I posted is from my super-high-res working comp, so it's even bigger than what it will appear on the finished cover. Trust me, the hairs are fine and will be hardly noticeable once printed.

Here is the latest version with the suggestions implemented... are the gray text and saturation working?

First, very nice work on the hair and i think the saturation boost gives it more POP

I think maybe the hair could do with a bit more brush work on it but not a lot though, I think the white TT could give a bit of oomph... give it a try and see what you think looks best.

Hmmm... I'm not sure. What do others think about Tim's suggestions?

What are your thoughts on boosting the saturation and/or contrast of the whole thing? It may take things further away from the film style, but, with all of the work you've put into these pieces, it's hard not to want to see them jump out more. Similarly, changing the title text to white could add another bit of contrast to the mix.

Thanks DS. I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for the characters Nolan created specifically for his films.

Ducard and Tate are fine, because they were simply misdirecting aliases for characters that actually exist in the Batman universe. But Dawes and Blake were uninteresting tangents that took us away from the canon characters.

Well, if there are no more suggestions, I'll call this one done and start to convert to DVD (just for you, RRJR), even though I hate converting from BD to DVD. Man, when are you going to bite the bullet and go blu-ray already?? :D

Guess I'm one of those that didn't know what to say, but before you had your little break, I thought the front was good enough to be complete, and that the back would have come easy for you, guess I was wrong there, but I like what you have done, I felt that Alfred, Fox and Gordon should have been on the cover somewhere so I was pleased to see them on the back.

You have the main protagonist of the trilogy on the cover, the characters of Blake, Tate, and Dawes (apart from being played by two actresses) I feel where only secondary characters and could be left out.

I agree with Kernie regarding John Blake, with all the varied characters in the Batman universe why did Nolan create a new character to take on the cowl. Though Robin wasn't seen in this universe you have Dick Grayson that was the first Robin, then Jason Todd, for the third there was Tim Drake, the forth a girl Stephanie Brown, then Damian Wayne, the child of Bruce and Talia.

My choice for the character played by Gordon-Levitt would have been Jason Todd, only by name and not to follow the story arc of the comic book Jason Todd. Yes there are similarities between the characters of Todd, Grayson and the new Blake as in they where all orphans, Grayson joined the Gotham City Police Department and like Tim Drake, John Blake discovers that Bruce Wayne is actually Batman.

So apart from the circus connection John Blake is a combination of all 3 of the characters that played Robin, but still I'm not sure way Nolan felt it a necessity to invent a new character to put into this role.

Anyhow enough of the waffling the cover looks exceptional :) well done

Thanks, nike! Any last suggestions before I start wrapping this one up?

- I brightened the whole cover, just giving it a slight level adjustment.
- Upped the saturation on the stills
- Removed the cars from the front keyart to help hide perspective/scale issues
- Added some Joker cards at the Joker's feet.

I still feel the back is a little bland... at least compared to my other covers. This is a much less dynamic layout than what I'm used to doing. Keeping everything very rectangular and grid-based, with nothing slanted or rotated at an angle, is very different for me. Which is probably why I got so stalled with it. I'm really not sure what else to do with it, but because it's a bit more "simple" and restrained than some of my other layouts, I'm not sure if it's imaginative enough for my standards. Does anyone else mind that the stills are just kind of lined up in a row and that the text is placed inside boring ol' rectangles?
