There are fonts out there with the same proportions, like Alternate Gothic No. 2 or the free League Gothic. And there are fonts out there with the handwritten styling, like B-Movie Retro. But I haven't seen a font combining the two yet.
Drawing your own text would be a great approach. Or, you can look through posters from the '30s and '40s to piece something together.
For instance, I made this a while back, pretty close to the above:
