I've had this idea for a while and finally found some good fur brushes. I tried alot of different brushes and this was the best result i had. Should i bother continuing or try get a better fur effect first?

I think in this case that the brush you got hold of was a little low resolution when scaled up. In order to produce a nice visual fur effect using a brush you first either have to use a High Rez Photographic image to produce your own brush type or look for another brush source.

Another alternatively is to source a either a fur tile pattern and build an image (3000 x 2000) or a texture.
I will take a look and see if i have anything (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumb.gif)

Any colour fur image will do because you can just desaturate it and then contrast modify.

Alternatively, you could also use a smaller high end quality image and clone it across the back of your cover....takes time though to get it looking just right.

Did you try Deviant by the way?

I like your idea though (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumb.gif)

I agree with Ky, great idea but to make it work you will need to find some better fur. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

I'll PM you shortly kylumi. I wanted to throw a few more ideas out here. I found a few fur wallpapers that might work. Biggest problem seems to be matching the type of hair apes have.

(IMG:http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/1462/kingkong35jw.jpg)

Oh and i had to save them in low quality to get the size down so if they look low res thats why.

gorillas hair is quite long, and thick. Out of all of these the first one of these two looks the best. Unless you can get a hi res pic of actual gorilla hair I think you are going to find it difficult.

I prefer these furs to computer generated ones though (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

If you're going to do a fur background cover I think it should extend onto the front as well. IMO, the front pic should be smaller and surrounded by the same background.

I want everyone to know that i'm not trying to get the back to look exactly like his fur on the front. An animals fur varies in length and thickness on different parts of their body. The back of the cover is supposed to represent kong's back. His mid back anyway, not going for the full kong monty here...

Anyway i added my poor attempt at a jungle leaf border around a few screen shots. Vines may of looked better but i don't have a brush for vines.

I liked the idea that spartanstew brought up with a small pic on the front. It would be like thoose collectors editions like jaws. Only this one would have a natural background instead of the traditional black (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

not too keen on the leaf borders, and if you are going for mid back it would be silver as he is the alpha male and would be called a silverback. (I watch too many documentaries).

I expect you would be able to get a pic of a silverback's back from a stock photo place, I will keep a look out for you if you are going for the authentic look.

I wouldnt try and put a border around the screenshots but use the fur to cover the edges, as though they are underneath it... will mean a bit of cutting out but definitely worth it...

From what i saw in the movie he didn't have silver on his back. I'm going for authentic but movie authentic not real world. I was going to do the fur covering the screenshots from the start but for some reaon it slipped my mind.
