OK, I signed on with you wonderful people as a self-proclaimed "label-only" guy. But, in the short time it took for you to accept me as a contributor, I decided to at least give it go with a cover or two.
I specifically chose a movie that 1) is not represented at hires, and 2) I found some good HQ images for.
What I have done:
- I started with the Multi_Template found here, and stripped everything but the Lions Gate portion.
- The front is made up of three separate images, cut and blended by me, so suggestions in that area are welcomed. I do plan on adding a sniper's sighting ring over Linda soon.
- The title text is mine as well, designed to mimic what I have seen on the LQ cover scans out there.
To come shortly - Finishing the font:
- Adding the lead actors' names (Wesley Snipes, Linda Fiorentino, Oliver Platt)
- Adding a tagline. I have seen "No way to live. No better way to die." and "In the game of life and death...you only lose once."

Then it will be on to the back and spine.

I think the front is a bit too red. I like the idea of a red hue, but I think this is too much. Looking forward to seeing where you go with this!

How about this? I thought the brown gave it more of a sepia tone feel, and I personally like the different color in the sniper's sight.
I don't feel as if I have room (with this current layout) for a tagline, so I am thinking about leaving it off. I will not touch this again for several hours, so all feedback/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

OK, looking for the next bit of help...what do I put in the credits? Is there a topic posted somewhere with suggestions? I've not really been able to distinguish the pattern looking at some of the other work out there.

Best way to do the credits, is copy them from a poster. That way you know the information is correct (IMG:style_emoticons/default/winking.gif) Use universal accredential or there are others similar.

I agree, but I could not find away to keep the background image, until just now. I took down the contrast and incereased the brightness, and I think I have what I was looking for. Does it stand out enough now? Or do you think I need more of the same? Or do something different?

Here are two samples for the synopsis where the background image is removed. Let me know if you like it better with our without the background image.

<img removed>

OK, I answered my own question, I like it MUCH better without the background image. I also changed the spine logos to black.

Still soliciting feedback in other areas as well.

Pretty fine effort for your first cover, Fubster. The only things that stand out to me are the colour behind the synopsis and the synopsis itself. That colour is ugly (imo), dude and the synopsis text is way too big. You could probably keep the same design you've got there, reduce the text size and put a tagline or quote above it.

Thank you for your honest feedback! I just want to make sure I understand: the verbage on the synopsis is OK, you're just reccomending that I decrease the font size, right?
As to the background, would you recommend a solid color, a gradient, a pattern of somekind? And what color/hue to compliment what I have? Would you recommend changing the color on the spine as well?
I hope you get a chance to reply before I start fiddling with it again!

Yes, just decrease the font size.

For the background, just try some different things as you said. I think the current orange/blue scheme works well, but that peachy/skin tone colour just has to go imo. The most important thing is that YOU are satisfied with the end result.

OK, thanks. Being my first one...I am less interested in my opinion than others. I liked the tan (which is how I would have described it), but, after you mentioned your opinion, I think I have found some other options I will like better.

Good job Fub... I would more work a little in font of the names of the actors varying between bold and regular or two fonts similar.
