Very nice start, great layout and work on the character!

I'd suggest to use the burn tool some more to bring out more crinkles and shadows on his chin, cheek and forehead.

Great start so far, how about moving “Dr.” to the left so the R lines up with the N?

Supremely stylish!

I'm with Sauron in being curious to see how the title would look with the R and N aligned.

Perhaps it's a placeholder, but the background blurred spider looks a little computer-y... maybe having it be a flat cutout would work nicely, and then the black lines would flow well into the black border?

Your character work on Connery is awesome. cheers.gif

Thanks, all! I've already made about 4 Dr. No covers at different points in my cover career, so it's fun to learn each time 8834.gif

I've played with that, and it seems a little odd with the established rule of vertical reading of "007". Lining of the R and N would make "RN" look like it needs to be read together.

Good point! I was going for the noir shadow, but you're right that it would be more cohesive if it were sharper

As a big 007 fan, I really like, what you did, exspecially the "spider" idea in the background. Is this a collection start or a single cover?

Glad you like it! It's only for a single cover mainly because I know I'd never have the attention span to finish a set that large haha

Small update (heard the Bunny Dojo in my head suggesting I turn down saturation). I also tried to get the spider to read easier. The border lines will be re-worked.

The shade of yellow you’re using now looks much better and the detail in Bonds face is a lot better as well.

That couldn't have been me -- I never realize over-saturation until months after the cover is done and the original files are too inconveniently stored to make an update. lol.gif

Good point about the title, after quickly trying it lined up or with the leg of the R diagonally lining up with the cross of the N, the way you have it now makes the most sense.

Would it work to put an outline around the background spider (not quite as pronounced as the one around Connery)?

EDIT: Or maybe just some light brush strokes on the inside of the spider? Or somehow texture a little around the edges? The blur just looks a bit too perfect and computer-generated to me compared to how wonderfully illustrative the rest of your textures are.
