This is an alternate back to my X-Men Collection cover that's already uploaded here. I think I'm settled on everything but the top of the back. I think there may be too much going on.

Here's a closeup of the top.

Great layout, (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumb.gif)
Maybe a little bit busy as you said,
and maybe it is an option to make the silver plate at the back the same color silver as the front. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)

Thanks. I didn't mean too busy, more like too many different elements. I'm not sure they all gel together if you know what I mean.

nonini: I made the metal on the back look more like the front. Good call.

I thought I should elaborate on my answer, I love the level of thought and detail you have put into the back of this cover. Personally I dont find that any of the elements clash, in fact one of the things I like best about the cover is that with every look there is another level of detail to discover.

Looks great!

One of my concerns is the close-up pic. The copy block looks really good but "forward." is a widow. Either kern the type so it can rest on the previous line or force return a word down so that is is not all alone.

The other is a personal preference suggestion. I would eliminate the X behind The x-men collection. You already have the large negative space X that fills the cover so that second x is redundant. Just my opinion.

I would love to see it as a standard sized cover for those of us space savers 3 in one movies only and a 6 in one standard.

Anyway keep up the great work. I like your work.

Thanks all. I guess I feel better about the elements on the back now. Just wanted to be sure.

Weapon. Thanks for the suggestions. You wouldn't believe how long I played with the synopsis text just to get it to justify in that space....ANY space! Each line actually has different kerning. I'll see if I can find a way to keep it all justified without letting the last word getting broken onto its own line.

As far as changing the titile...I've seen some other X-Men collection covers that use an X in the background to imply one in the title. To me it makes it look like, "The Men Collection." (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

I know how hard it can be to kern the type in a text block but one of the main rules of thumb in any text block is never a widow. Keep trying you will get a combo that works. Maybe do it in indesign or illustrator first since they work better with text than photoshop.

As far as the men collection goes (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/lol.gif) I think we are talking about a different X. I mean the one behing the x-men collection logo.

I have to agree with CML. If you drop the 'X' from the main title, and use the smaller background one to represent the 'X' from the title, it would look like some brokeback mountain movie, called The Men collection. As for the text being justified, I personaly can't see any major issues with it. The only thing I would be inclined to sugest about the synopsis, would be to reduce the size of the text slightly.

I guess a picture is not worth a thousand words...I will try again

Check out the red arrow in the previous attachment, it is pointing to the background X. that is the one that should be eliminated. The X-men Collection still has its X in it and the huge negitive space x is still there.

I just crudely eliminated the background x but you should get the idea this time I hope. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

Personal preference or not, it is one of the cardinal sins in the basic graphic design rules. No widows in text blocks.

As bazzah suggested reducing the size of the text could solve both of our requests in one shot.

Oh that X. I see your point now. If you're interested I can send you a version without the X, but I prefer it there so it's going to stay. Also not to give the ever-annoying, "Its not a mistake its intentional" excuse, but I actually wanted to try and put a bunch of X's on this cover. Some are actually pretty well hidden. I was inspired by Bryan Singer's commentary track to X-men where he talked about putting X's all throughout the film as kinda a subliminal message.

As for the synopsis. I decreased the font and played with the kerning and the last word is no longer on a line of its own. It looks better now thanks.

I think I'm going to upload this one now.

In all honesty I see nothing wrong with it. I think it looks perfect just as it is.
