I know there are tons out there, but when I think
of the man of steel, I think metal, or strong as.

yes I know I've used the background texture before
but I've tried to many steel textures and it gets
lost and you only think texture, not steel, this one
I believe gives the metal feel.

played with the perspcetive on the back and got the
cape coming out of the crack.

so the question is have at it or bin it?

cheers

I like the front mega (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) not sure about the back though (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/chin.gif) if its metal...and thats what it looks like considering there are screws in it...it wouldn't look ripped like that?

was playing with it a bit before I read your posts.

but ya metal can rip like that, stress rip, more common
in white metal but can happen with regular steel as well.
you might be confusing a puncture tear (as with the jagged curled edges) with a rip tear.
but I'll try it. it might look better.

To me it would look better if the S symbol was stamped into the metal.

ok here is a flat lulubelle.
got rid of the Amercian flag...don't really work for me knowing that the character Superman was created by a Canadian. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)

is this more the type of rip your thinking about? (still tweaking it).
synop has the metal treatment as well.

cheers

thnx for the flat preview (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) The rips still don't work...I think its because they are too thin and look like paper..the one on superman make it look as though he has a really large shirt collar (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)

I think if you are going to have him coming through it needs to look like a hole has been "punched" out of the metal?

I would also justify the synopsis, I like the curve on it (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) but the other side needs to be straight....IMO it would look much better.

Try doing a more oval shapped rip with jagged edges. Don't make it look like a straight edge. It should look like its been torn open by his bare hands.

I think the rip in the metal needs more interaction with the character to be believable. As Lulu mentioned, he could be flying through it. There is posterart of him flying forward through glass that you could adapt to this. There is also poster art of him pulling open his coat and shirt to expose his suit. You could adapt that to make it look like he was ripping the cover open instead, exposing him behind it.

I think one rip is probably enough too. Doing it again for Lex seems kinda cheesy in my opinion. If Superman is the man of steel than he's the only one that should be ripping I think.

When working with metal textures it often looks good to make it look like your images are silk screened onto the metal. Try setting the layer properties to luminosity or to multiply (desaturate image if you do this one).

ok more ideas to try
tried a bit of an acid burn through, (note these rips are not finalized and still rough), and as suggested, I'm more than likely only going to use one.

any better?

cheers

edit:
changed the image

thanks for the heads up on the image CavemanLawyer
I think it will work nicely...but damn I got a ton of work changing the glass to metal (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/SHOCKED.gif)
but I think it will be worth it and I got a few more ideas to try out as well.

it'll be a bit before an update (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/lol.gif)

sorry Mega, the image of superman does look much better but IMO still doesn't look right...metal just wouldn't do that...you have several options....you can make the metal glass and either take the screws away or make a mounting for the glass with the screws in..... or make it look like he has torn through metal...

This is just an opinion, its up to you what you do with it (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)

Maybe if you took away the flying bits of metal and just had a jagged hole instead.
