This is a early WIP of Hellraiser 1.
After a couple day's i have decided what the basic of the covers will be look like.
I am gonna make the hole box of 8 with probably a spanning spine and with different front pics.
Like always are comments and suggestions welcome. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

like the idea of the chains (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) how about instead of the (I think its the lid) lid how about a bit of stretched skin hooked on them...give you somewhere to put your synopsis (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)

I am also not very keen on that red image on the front? I think you may need to play with that a bit or change it (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

I totally agree!

try to get some "skin" for the back. maybe ask skally or (was it ?) "flying piggy"! (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)
They have done great work on the saw cover!
The title on the front is imo to near to the coveredge. maybe put it a bit higher.
Furthermore the front doesn't look very good. I don't like the red pattern.
The chains look goob on the background, maybe reduce them on the front!

Love to see more...

Can't wait for these to be finished.

I'd only bother with the first three, the rest are lame.

Thanks lulubelle, Videoflixx, sauron and mattm77 for your comments and tips. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

I struggled with the front pics and i decide to change it and to go this way.
It's still a early Wip and i will change the chain (bigger one).
The back isn't finished yet. Also the spanning spine.

Here a little update:

Allright, I'm gonna say some stuff that not everybody (apparently) will agree too? (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

- first of all, great idea to make a unique series of covers for this! (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/thumb.gif)
- but! It's probably taste-related, but I really don't like those andy warhol-type of figures
on the front. On the other hand, it does make the covers unique.

- other I noticed was, that whatever's on the cover, doesn't blend very well with eachother as
one theme. Offcourse, the regular stuff like the boxes, chains, hooks, I agree, it's cool too have,
almost a must (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif) but too me it looks like a bunch of collected stuff and put together, it all floats and stuff through eachother... I alway like to have a sort of proper layout where stuff needs to go. If you're on the right track, things will fall in place (at least that's my experience). (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) Somehow I'm also missing a bit of depth. Mostly since there are no shadows coming from the boxes or chains 'n stuff.

- another thing I noticed and I see a lot of people do, well, (mostly beginners to be honest, no offense), is the OVER USE of bevel/embossing. I'm NOT saying it isn't usefull, you just need to know WHEN to apply it and most importantly: how much? (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif) I see it in the spanning spine, and it looks like a soft outer bevel too me or something like that, while the box/plates need to be a bit more sharper I think. So you could try different settings (chisel hard/soft, directions). If you really want it to be 3D, I would advise you to learn Cinema 4D or Maya for example.

- The text! Can't read it. Could probably be due too the size of the pic here, but you did the text the same color as the boxes? And the same font as the Hellraiser text? Anyway, imho, the back should always be INFORMATIVE. So I like the text and information to be clear and it must make sense to the viewer. I alway like to think that, when I would be passing a bunch of covers in the videostore, would this cover "grab my attention" and if so, can I read the back to see where this movie's about? (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

- Ah! it just striked me (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) What was "bothering me", the blending part, is that the background (blue thing) is done with a filter and it looks like a type of drawing if you will. No problem at all, but everything to the front is almost "photo-like". So in order for it to make it more uniform and "a whole", it too do it either this way or that way.

Hmm it's so early, I really need some coffee (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) Anyway, i'm just giving positive criticism here, everything in good spirit (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif) You're on a track, and you're bound to do seven more covers. Why not trying to make a good base layout first that you can use seven times more (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/winking.gif)
