You need to change cursor. Once you have made your straight line, under the list of pen tools, there is what looks like an arrow. Use this to add anchor points. Once the anchor points have been added, return to the vector selection tool (cursor above) to adjust your curve.

Use the 'convert point tool' to add you curves, then the 'direct selection tool' to adjust those points.

Are you using the direct selection tool, or the other one?

OK sauron I've just had a go at this myself.

When it says click to add a point in the middle of the straight line, I just kept the mouse button pressed and then shaped the line as I wanted it to look and everything worked out peachy. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

Hope this helps. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

Sorry i don't understand you.

In the tutorial just before the 1st pic it says the following:

then set a straight line (make sure its STRAIGHT!)
then click in the middle!! and move around till you have a nice and smooth shape like this

OK when you get to part in bold just keep the mouse button pressed and then you can shape the straight line any way you want. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8834.gif)

Try this link Sauron:

http://www.heathrowe.com/tuts/vector.asp

Take note of the Beziers. They are the bits you need to adjust to make a curve.
