Unlike the previous ip3000/4000/5000 etc pixma range the replacement ip4200/5200 etc range have a problem with using cheaper compatible cartridges due to them being chipped (The only compats I could find where via a german ebay seller and that was a con as you had to take your chip off the old original and stick it on the compatible!)and CIS solutions are thin on the ground unless you build your own.

So just thought I share that the carts for these (CLI 8's) can be refilled, I have used universal JR ink for now and the only issue is that the ink monitor continues to give warnings.

The PGI 5BK is the photo black cartridge and I'm getting hold of some of this ink hopefully.

So just ignore these but schedule to do manual checks. Keeping the ink level topped up stops the sponges from deterioating.
