An age old discussion, so let's keep it simple. Should the gallery have voting disabled, yes or no?

Comments are more meaningful than an average score.

I think that although the current voting system does not work, because people make stupid votes for no reason like someone who has been voting 0 on covers that do not deserve it, it works better than rating a cover by its downloads.

This would be susceptible to latest releases, big blockbusters and is not a true reflection on what rating a cover should be about.

If you are going to get rid of cover ratings then I think you should do it completely, leave it down to just leaving comments.

I would lie if I said I don't look to see how my covers have been rated, but I wouldn't be lying if I said it is the comments that mean more.

Don't give a [insert word of choice here] about votes.

All I care is how many people have downloaded my cover, which gives me a pretty good picture of how many shelfs in the wide world my creation is standing in.

Lulu is right, remove it all.

@Irrob, I thought you were for the vote. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

The key to faking out the parents is the clammy hands. It's a good non-specific symptom; I'm a big believer in it. A lot of people will tell you that a good phony fever is a dead lock, but, uh... you get a nervous mother, you could wind up in a doctor's office. That's worse than school. You fake a stomach cramp, and when you're bent over, moaning and wailing, you lick your palms. It's a little childish and stupid, but then, so is high school.

Zero voting by anonymous voters (we have no way of tracing these).

Tactical voting of 3s on top-rated covers (we know who YOU are)

Creators voting for their own covers (we know who YOU are)

I wish the coding of the board would allow us to completely eliminate ALL of the above.

But we don't, so for me, the voting system should go.

I just hope anybody who has done ANY of the above feels suitably anal retentive for ruining what should have been an asset to the site. (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/shrug.gif)

I like to vote because artists take what little spare time they have for other people to have a pretty cover instead of the retail covers (thats the girly part of me talking)
I like to post in the forums to let the Artists know how i feel about there covers
I have not and never would vote below a 4 but thats just me
But if the voting has to go well so be it shame the minority ruin for the majority

Cheers (IMG:http://www.hirescovers.net/forum/style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

The poll numbers are closer than I expected. I suspect the votes are polarized. I hate to go there, but the votes could have been limited to those that have a true stake/risk in this, the admin, artists and contributors.

The voting system on any site is at best a subjective argument, agreed that some artists may like to have some sort of scoring system for recognition of there work but it has not and will never work imo simply because its open to abuse by the minority. Personally i've never took any notice of ratings as i've found that covers i've created in the past have scored low on the rating system only to find it's had dozens of downloads, whats more important to me are the words members take the time to type either giving thanks or critique for my creations and to me both are as helpful as each other.
