Promotion to a new group can either be suggested by Admin and the Moderators, or can be suggested by individual members. You can even nominate yourself if you wish! Contributor applications are put to a vote by all the designers and moderators in a private section of the forum, only accessible by those groups.
Master Designer decisions are voted upon by the existing Master Designers and staff. All decisions are made by private vote and majority wins. In all promotion cases Admin will always make the final decision.
GROUP RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRIVILEGES
Once promoted to a group you agree to the rules for that group as outlined below, failure to meet that criteria may result in demotion and loss of privileges form that group.
Contributors are appointed at administrators discretion, or via the prove yourself
thread, where a poll is held and majority vote provides or declines free access. Once a member of the Contributor group, users work/resources or scans must pass HiRes staff approval before submission into the gallery. Contributors submissions are monitored and those who do not upload regularly over a 12 month period, or those who constantly submit substandard work, will have their account returned to a standard member. To regain contributor status, you will need to prove yourself again with new work, as per the prove yourself rules. Contributions are automatically checked once a month, and you will receive sufficient warnings before being demoted.

Cover Designers/Scanners/Label Designers
Admission to these groups is by application or election through a vote by designers, or by administrators discretion. This group is a badge of trust for users whose work has consistently been proven to meet the standards expected by the site; as determined by the upload rules. Upon appointment, member of this group are expected to post a minimum number of labels/covers to uphold their group. More information can be found here
. Note - "sets" of similar covers or labels will count as ONE cover or label (apart from the Scanner group). Cover Designers/Scanners/Label Designers work is not subject to staff approval before uploading to the gallery. They are expected to participate where possible within the forums and to assist those attempting to improve there own work. This group is also expected to assist voting on the promotion of both contributors and new Scanner/Cover/Label designers and benefits from free access to all areas of the site. This group also benefits from having an advanced font and slip case section.
The same rules as Cover Designers/Scanners/Label Designers apply, plus;
Advanced Designers have shown an advanced understanding of design and can create unique custom artwork. Advanced Designers should be prepared to answer questions from other members regarding techniques used (if there is particular interest in a certain technique, then we would encourage Advanced Designers to create a thread in the Tips and Tricks). They are also expected to look through the request section, and help where they can. Advanced Designers should use the WIP section as much as they can, to help less experienced designers understand the process or techniques used.
The same rules as Advanced Designers apply, plus;
This group is expected to vote on the promotion to the master designer group as well as other groups as detailed above. Master Designers are also expected to nominate and vote for Cover Of The Month once per month. This group also benefits from having a customisable personal gallery, to further recognise their elite status.
WHAT CAN MEMBERS GET FROM THE FACT THAT WE HAVE GROUPS?
The purpose of having groups is to encourage the development of good work. The sense of attaining a certain level and aiming for the next provides users of the site with a goal to continually improve their work.
Hopefully, by seeing the development, in WIP, of the covers that the 'Designer groups' produce, individual members who wish to produce their own covers, but have previously lacked the confidence, will be encouraged to "have a go".
Basic techniques, such as, for example, alignment of text around objects, or colour adjustments etc., we would encourage Master Designers to explain to others how these are done.
By studying the work of those groups, newcomers to Cover Fan Art will be aware of the very high standards that we demand in our work.
