As we shift into even more exciting designs in 2020, I'd love a quick look back to see everyone's favorite covers they made over the past year.

2019 was particularly fantastic for collections. Along with the shining gem of HiRes, Kernie's Comic Book Collection, outstanding designers like Xshoty, ctaulbee, Matush, Wysmommy, Pytlaczek, Robe77, Bojka123, Garot, Falle, and the prolific Tmscrapbook created and expanded incredible collections all year long.

There are also powerhouse designers like Antistatic, who uploaded dozens of jaw-dropping covers in a single event, alongside Bazzah and Papinice who both continuously added one great cover after another throughout 2019.

And, we're lucky enough to have designers like Fidi release his cover masterpieces in multiple formats -- and even multiple languages.

With all of this in mind, it can be tough to remember and single out favorites.

There are so many wonderful designs that may have missed the spotlight by a couple of points in a vote but absolutely deserve another look from big names like S_t_a_l_k_e_r, Stampe, Chevalier, Redt8tr, BronX30, Abendhei, Speedz0r, Nightrider, and Didier60.

Even for some of my favorite designers who only released a few covers this year, like Paris and Weyn and JollyRoger, it would be great to recall.

Plus, there are members who create spectacular designs but might not participate in contests or post Show Case threads -- I think everyone would be excited to see some of the brilliant works that flew under the radar in 2019.

What are 3-5 Favorite Covers You Made in 2019?

Here are 3 favorites I made:

Minority Report

Fort Apache

Gaslight

on your cover page for easy previews. I hope I didn't miss too many names -- that's why we need a refresher. 8834.gif)

I really love your Minority Report design, layout, colouring and all. The cover for Fort Apache is also extremely well done!

Thanks for the honourable mention, my old friend! thumb.gif

All your work is great Tim - not only your covers but your fonts as well.

I only made 1 cover in 2019 and it’s nothing special, if I had made more I certainly would have participated in this.

Will be interesting to see everyone else’s top 3 covers.

That's a very cool idea Tim, I like that thread. 8834.gif

And thank you as well for mention me with your kind words. You're also one of these outstanding designers and I like the selection of your own three covers - Gaslight is one of my overall favorites for the past year. cheers.gif

I'm curious to see what the designers around think about their own covers during 2019 and I hope there'll be a lot of replies and not only by the usual suspects. wink.gif

I only did a few covers last year so it's not too hard to pick three of them:

Jurassic Park Trilogy

Sully

Valerian and the City of the Thousand Planets

Great Idea Bunny. Your covers are so professional, the studios should pay you an advertising fee, because every
time i see one of your covers, i want to watch the movie. 8834.gif

What a great topic!

No wonder the covers that you guys chose as your favorites; they are all masterpieces!!

Out of 63 covers uploaded in 2019, here are my favorites in no particular order:

Put a lot of work in this RoboCop cover - as I also did with the sequels. Tried out some new techniques that I hadn't tried before, but that I'm gonna do more of in 2020.

The first cover from my Star Wars: The Entire Saga collection. This is a series of covers that I'd wanted to do for years, and I finally mastered a template that could include ALL of Star Wars into one big collection.

I finished of the year with covers for Stallone's Rocky movies, something that I also wanted to do for quite a while. Was quite satisfied with the minimal design, which is something I strived for.

Great idea for a thread Tim, and thanks for the mention! 8824.gif 8824.gif 8824.gif

Outside of my Comic Book Collection, I didn't make too many "standalone" covers this past year. Here are the few that I was able to put together...

And while I don't see this particular cover getting much use, I had a good laugh while designing it...

Great job to all designers this past year... looking forward to what's to come in 2020! 8824.gif 8824.gif 8824.gif

Following Kernie... looking at anything you do lets me know where the bar is and that there is still lots of room for improvement on my part 8824.gif

Thanks for the mention Tim, that Gaslight is a real showstopper, Fidi's Valerian is a flat out stunner, those two alone showcase the massive talent consistently on display here at hires.

First on behalf of the site I would like to thank all our artists for their tireless devotion to this wonderful hobby and for sharing their endless creations with our membership here.

The level of creativity at hires is impressive and there are numerous examples of this posted in this topic already, just scroll up one for example.

For me my most favorite cover is usually the one I'm working on, the ones that are completed usually fall from favor fairly quickly.

There is a number of reasons for this but the most common one is wishing I had done this or that differently, so each new project is me searching for the one that will be my favorite.

I find the design process to be a ongoing evolution, I learn new techniques or improve old ones all the time and as such find myself looking back at previous works and saying wow that could have been a lot better if I had known this then...

That said in 2019 there are a few covers that didn't fair as well as some others did but that I'm more fond of them becasue of the effort vs the result it yielded.

These three are older films and required a lot of time and new techniques for dealing with the quality of the images, so it was rewarding to see them come out as well as they did. Blood & Chocolate featured a lot of new hair work, both it and Jason were also adventures into more advanced title effects, and focus on other finer details as well, so these three sort of sum up a lot of the new things I learned in 2019.

Blood & Chocolate (2007)

Eastern Promises (2007)

Jason X (2001)

I do a fair number of art house and less mainstream titles as I like the challenge of not having a ton of high-res resources to work from all the time, forces you to be more creative with the basics like color, texture, typography etc.

I also find doing more minimal covers to be even more of a challenge in other ways, like space and how it is used becomes painfully obvious when you're not filling every square inch with eye candy lol.

Here are a couple of 2019 covers that fall in that category, I think I found some decent balance on these and they came out fairly pleasing to my eye anyway.

Things To Come (2016)

About Elly (2009)

You've created a great topic, Tim, many artists have designed great covers this year, and many of you have shown that you can design covers at a higher level. In my opinion, the bar has been raised a lot.

Last year, I didn't manage to create many covers, and I don't think I have much to boast about, additionally, looking at the high level of other artists, my covers are poor. I made some comics that I'm not very happy about. My only cover with which I put a lot of work is Rogue one a star wars story and a solo that I haven't finished yet. I hope that this year I will be able to design more covers for equal films than just comics and Star Wars.
Below are some covers, which I think are quite decent.
