I started putting together this keyart for my Comic Collection version of Civil War, but feel that it might be worth also doing as a standalone cover (or possibly covers for the whole trilogy). It looks good in the template, but I also really like how the image stands on its own.

My struggle now is how to approach turning this into a standalone cover that isn't too derivative of my comic covers, my Avengers covers, or another designer's work. It also makes it difficult to make a unique yet consistent design across all three films, as they are tonally so different. First Avenger is a WW2 period film, Winter Soldier is a 70's spy thriller, and Civil War looks to be basically an Avengers film.

Where I need some help is inspiration and direction. If members would be so kind as to post examples of back/spine layouts or designs that might compliment this keyart, that would be most appreciated. I have some ideas of my own, but would love any feedback or suggestions before proceeding further.

Thanks! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

That's lookin really awesome!!

I think you've choosen a very different way, I really don't have a good idea what to do around them.
Maybe play around with Cap's shield? If I'm right that's something they've done on one of these artworks as well?

Looks great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8834.gif) how about a TT up top and a tagline down lower at the bottom?

And when i decide to do a boring cover, you show us this awesome piece of art! Magnificent Kernie! It's incredible how good and talented you are as a designer!

I'm gonna search for some possible layouts that can work with this.

First of all, thank you everyone for such a warm response to this keyart. I like it a lot too and want to find a way to utilize it without covering so much of it within my Comic Collection template.

You mean like this?

Unfortunately, it's not a true representation of my progress. I made this by going back and turning off layers and adjustments to give a sense of what I did. One thing it doesn't show is my struggle with the arrangement of characters. In the interest of full disclosure, I did draw a lot of inspiration from the promo art (below) but wanted to give a bit more pizzazz! I hope that I've added enough of my own flourishes to not feel too much like a rip off. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

I can't tell if you're joking... but the point of the film is that they are fighting brother against brother in a "civil war." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

With the GIF i do admit your technique is awesome ! i love it ! The only thing bugged me is your background maybe it's just me or because the preview quality is not on top but the background look in poor quality. What about added some shadow on the right side of Iron man buddy a bit like Captain america on his left side !

Can't wait to see the evolution of this one m8 !

Believe me... Kernie never do anything with low resolution or poor quality! But both gif and first preview are high quality.

I can assure you that the background is high quality. The issues that you are seeing in the previews are from the JPEG and GIF compression. I wanted to keep the file size of the animated GIF smaller so it loaded faster. In order to do that, I had to compress it considerably, which caused dithering and banding in the gradients, particularly on the background.

As for the right side of Iron Man, I'll make a few tweaks, but I will most likely crop the majority of that out on the final cover.

Excellent work, love the progress gif, it's always great to see how your artwork evolves, the one thing I could suggest about a cover design is, since all three films feature different time periods as you suggested the only thing really to stay constant is Cap's uniform meaning the stars and stripes red, white and blue.

I don't mean to use the American Flag, but the symbols from it and caps suit, I'm not sure how I would go about including the shapes though.

Just trying to throw out an idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)

We're on the same page. I was thinking about doing something that evokes stars/stripes without necessarily using the literal flag. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/8824.gif)
