Have you deleted all the hidden layers, and do you have any smart objects that you could rasterize?

What Baz said, also save a backup copy in paint, there should be no visible quality loss, but you'll have a smaller file size.. give it a try.

New versions of PS are sloppy on saves with including too much extra data in the files.

Best way to get a small file size is use "Save for Web" option then select "jpeg high" preset then I move the slider up to 90 and select none under the metadata drop down, that should really bring the file size down.

That 90 is just my base target number, 75-90 should be fine depending on the file and how small you wish to make it.

Note this is more or less what the extra steps of loading into other program do, ie they can't read the extra info that PS puts in there so when you re-save it from one of them it all gets dropped, by using the 'Save For Web' option you can just do it all in PS and save the steps.

That will bring the file size down but also reduce it to 72dpi when for print it should be 300dpi

Your right but most people use a template or some printing program to handle the print-out which sets the final print size and ignores that file setting anyway.

Still if you are going to print it raw then the dpi needs to be at 300 or else it will print way too big on the page, there is a free online way to change that number as it is just a print number anyway.

http://convert.town/image-dpi

Set it to 300, drag the file and drop it and it will send you back a 300 dpi version.

I myself never look at dpi as it's unimportant as long as you know what finished size you want the final print to be. 8834.gif
